Normand Gingras a reçu son doctorat en psychologie clinique de l’Université d’Ottawa en juin 2000. Pendant ses études, il s’intéresse surtout aux questions théoriques et épistémologiques qui touchent la psychologie. Sa thèse de doctorat est une étude théorique sur le Soi, conjuguant les approches existentielle-phénoménologique et herméneutique. Depuis ses études, Normand s’intéresse à la thérapie de couple axée sur les émotions « Emotionally focused therapy for couples » et au traitement des traumatismes. Dans son travail clinique, il préconise une approche expérientielle-gestaltiste, qui met l’accent sur les besoins interrelationnels et sur la vie émotionnelle. Depuis juin 2011, il travaille comme psychologue dans l’Unité de santé mentale générale du Ministère de la Défense nationale. Il enseigne la thérapie de couple aux étudiants en psychologie clinique au niveau doctoral à l’Université d’Ottawa. Il est agréé comme formateur au sein de ICEEFT et offre des formations en français au Québec, en Suisse et en France. Avant de se lancer en psychologie, Normand a oeuvré pendant 13 ans au sein des Forces canadiennes à titre d’officier d’entretien des aéronefs et détient un baccalauréat en génie électrique du Collège Militaire Royal. Il est membre de l’Ordre des psychologues de l’Ontario et de la Société canadienne de psychologie.

Normand received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Ottawa in June 2000. During his studies, he focused mostly on theoretical and epistemological issues within psychology. His doctoral thesis was a study on the conceptualisation of Self, using an existential-phenomenological and hermeneutic approach. Since his graduation, Normand has devoted himself to working with distressed couples using Emotionally focused therapy and on the treatment of trauma. In his clinical work, he favours an experiential-gestaltist approach, focusing on relationships and on emotional life. He teaches couples therapy to graduate students in the doctoral clinical psychology program of the University of Ottawa. Since June 2011, he is employed as a treating psychologist within the General Mental Health clinic at the Department of National Defence. He is a certified trainer with ICEEFT and teaches EFT in french in Québec, Switzerland and France. Prior to his studies in psychology, Normand worked as an aircraft maintenance officer within the Canadian Forces and holds an Electrical Engineering degree from the Royal Military College. He is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and of the Canadian Psychological Association.
